What function do omega-3s serve and why is important to include them in our diet?

We need omega 3s to function. They benefit heart health, normalize and regulate cholesterol triglyceride levels and impact brain health. They also can support visual and neurological development in infants. Many Americans don’t consume enough omega-3s and being deficient may contribute to mental and physical complications. Omega 3s and Omega 6 levels should be in balance, but omega 6 levels, which dominate the American diet, are often higher than omega 3 levels.
